HOME Magazine’s 1999 American Home of the Year was an interesting challenge for David. Partnered with Jerry Cook and Henry Harrison, the trio was building homes in the prestigious Lake Forest community of Dallas.
David saw an opportunity to extend his home improvement radio show beyond the airwaves and into a design and idea home, and contacted Gabbert’s about teaming up on the project. HOME Magazine was searching for prospects for their “American Home of the Year” award, and discovered the plan/project.
HOME Magazine ultimately chose the home as their award-winner, and a unique partnership between Yates, Cook, and Harrison, Gabbert’s, HOME Magazine and 570 KLIF Radio produced a $1.25 million design and idea showcase home that was open for 18 months and generated over $15 million in sales for the builder.
